Roaring Economy of Gujarat - Keval Jani

The name Gujarat is well known all across the world and famous for it's people, festivals, trade and development. Why is Gujarat a developed state of a developing country? How it developed? The whole story of dedication and expertise of Gujarat is difficult to describe as it deserves to be written in a novel and not a blog. The understanding of Gujarat's journey to development is explained by my own research and i hope you will find it helpful.

The state with only 6% land mass of India and mere 5% population of nation, Gujarat has accounted for 7.6% of Indian GDP and 22% of Exports. 22%? Yes, India's 1/4 of the export trade comes from only one state and that is Gujarat.. Gross state domestic product (GSDP) of Gujarat has stayed nearly 10% from 2001 to 2013, which is far more than Indian GSDP. If the state were have been a country with population above 10 millions than it would have been the 3rd fastest developing nation after China and South Korea. Gujarat has traditional trading hub from centuries at Arabian sea and the long coastal line has proved beneficial for the trade account. Normally in India, states with longer coastal line have proved to be successful in terms of trade & exports in comparison to non coast line and land locked states like Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Rajasthan. About 1/4th of India's sea cargo passes through ports of Gujarat, and that's where the state proves to be the spinal cord of the nations economy, export and the GDP growth rate.

It is not only about the trade and exports but Gujarat is a leading player in agriculture and animal husbandry sector. Asia's largest milk federation exists in Gujarat and it counts for processing of 1.4 million kilograms milk per day. 'Amul' brand of Gujarat has stuffed the Saudi Arabian super marts and has established a monopoly across the borders as well. Saurashtra region of the state leads in production of groundnuts, cotton and and the very famous Kesar mangoes of the Gir District.

GDP Growth rate in year 2017-2018 has remained 11% and it is much higher than national figure. State has got a massive gold, silver and diamond market. Once again, it is a leading player in diamond polishing, gold jewelry manufacturing and silver ornament designing. The city of Surat has 5000+ units of diamond polishing and cutting. India is the biggest player in the world in terms of maximum number of diamond polishing units and the Western Indian city of Surat counts for 92% of World's total diamond polishing. A city of Gujarat state is enough to lead the competition against rest of the world in terms of diamond cutting and polishing.

Widespread economic growth of the state is a story of dedication and hard work of Gujarati community.
